“We’re building an environment where patient safety is not just a slogan but an intrinsic element; strategically designed and built into our rooms, information systems, and processes. The tower plays a living role in the quality of our outcomes.”

A New Tower as Keystone to Our Plan
Opening A New Era—The new CHOC Children’s tower opens the future of the hospital and with it, the future of children’s healthcare in Orange County. The tower is the physical manifestation and keystone of our vision to offer the scope, breadth, and depth of services required to perform as a premier children’s hospital, fully serving and anticipating the needs of our marketplace.
After more than four decades of sharing services with an adult hospital, the tower puts CHOC in charge of its own destiny and takes the hospital into a new era. The facility will dramatically improve our ability to address all eight required ingredients to competitively recruit and retain the elite subspecialty pediatricians needed to make Orange County one of the medically safest and healthiest places for children in the country.
Most importantly, it will be a place where sick kids and their families find serenity, hope for healing, and people who understand their unique needs.
Creating the Safest, Most Serene Children’s Hospital in the Nation
The new CHOC Children’s tower will bring an additional 88 patient beds to the hospital by 2013 and provide space for further growth in later phases. This new facility gives CHOC Children’s critical control of its core services, making it a truly freestanding children’s hospital with its own pediatric surgical suites, emergency department, and radiology and pathology departments. The total project cost is estimated at $585 million and will be funded through a combination of income from operations, new debt, public funding, and philanthropy.
