Your Gift Supports our Ability to make Orange County one of the Medically Safest Places for Children and Families in the Nation
Imagine your child is diagnosed with cancer. Naturally, you want access to the best doctors and the best medical science has to offer, which we are prepared to provide at CHOC Children’s. But in this case, the child’s disease is not the only factor in need of critical care. Entire families are deeply affected by the illness of a child. In order to treat the whole child, we must address the impact of the child’s disease on the whole family. Children heal better and faster when this approach is taken.
The Child Life and Family Services program is critical to the care of our patients. As important as these services are to the care of children, they are not reimbursable by any insurance program. Rather, this major priority within the hospital is funded purely by operational dollars. Endowing the Child Life and Family Services program will ensure that
CHOC can sustain these services that are so critical to creating the most positive outcomes for children and families.
Meaningful Survivorship
In the process of saving the lives of children with acute and chronic illnesses, we are keenly aware that curing disease is not enough. Our goals are set beyond a mere increase in life expectancy. We seek to give each patient the best chance to live as normal a life as possible. Quality of life is paramount. The pursuit of meaningful survivorship requires a complex portfolio of specialized services as illustrated in the diagram below.
