How do you stop hearts from stopping?

Your Gift Supports a Center for Innovation in Pediatric Cardiac Care

At CHOC Children’s we encounter heart defects that range in severity from simple congenital defects such as holes between heart chambers to complex life-threatening defects such as the complete absence of one or more chambers or valves. We also treat young children and teens who have developed arrhythmias—heartbeats that are slow, fast, or irregular. However complex the case, the Heart Institute’s multidisciplinary team is ready and waiting 24/7 to serve the needs of our region’s children.

The Heart Institute at CHOC Children’s brings hope to children with heart disease by providing state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of an entire spectrum of cardiac conditions. A core group of board-certified, pediatric-trained cardiologists, intensivists, neonatologists, and surgeons brings a new level of competency to the Institute in the

management of neonates, infants, children, and adolescents with congenital heart defects.

Meaningful Survivorship

In the process of saving the lives of children with acute and chronic illnesses, we are keenly aware that treating disease is not enough. Our goals are set beyond a mere increase in life expectancy. We seek to give each patient the best chance to live as normal a life as possible. Quality of life is paramount. The pursuit of meaningful survivorship requires a complex portfolio of specialized services as illustrated in the diagram below.
