Your Gift Supports Innovative Research that will Accelerate Breakthroughs in Pediatric Neuroscience Care
Scientists and doctors need funding. They also need one another. Dr. Michael Muhonen, one of the few pediatric neurosurgeons in the country, and Dr. Ira T. Lott, a nationally acclaimed child neurologist, orchestrate a talented mix of leading researchers and clinicians in pursuit of excellent patient outcomes and breakthroughs in neuroscience.
The goal of neurosurgery is to use the most non-invasive procedures available. In cases where standard therapies are not available, CHOC neurosurgeons work tirelessly to pioneer new ones—focusing on minimizing patient trauma while optimizing patient outcomes from surgery.
In the neurological sciences, the goal is to provide innovative clinical care, with the most effective treatments for epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders, cerebral palsy, and neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism. Targeted programs have included new therapies for refractory
seizures, expert diagnosis of children with low muscle tone, and innovative interventions for learning disorders associated with developmental disabilities. CHOC neurologists work closely with their colleagues in the related disciplines of neurosurgery, genetic-metabolic disorders, orthopaedics, and neurointensive care.
Meaningful Survivorship
Our goals are set beyond merely increasing life expectancy. We seek to give each patient the best chance to live as normal a life as possible. Quality of life is paramount. The pursuit of meaningful survivorship requires a complex portfolio of specialized services as illustrated in the diagram below.
