Our goal is to have every child walk out of here on his or her own.

Your Gift Supports our Ability to Provide the Pediatric Orthopaedic Care and Facilities that meet the needs of Children and Families

CHOC Children’s Orthopaedic Institute is the only program of its kind in the region. We provide comprehensive subspecialty programs with exceptional capabilities to diagnose and treat complex orthopaedic conditions and sports injuries in children and adolescents. But given the demand for our services and the shortage of doctors, the Institute faces severe growing pains. In CHOC’s Orthopaedic Clinic, doctors must see some 60 patients in one half-day session. Our Orthopaedic Clinic handles more than 12,000 visits a year. Given the growth of the area’s population, the number of visits is projected to triple in the next 10 years.

To meet the current and rapidly growing demands of this region, more pediatric orthopaedic surgeons are needed along with additional satellite facilities to make care more accessible. While growth always presents challenges, it also presents opportunities. The Institute, with its substantial patient flow, has become a superb research platform for

the creation of new knowledge in the field. The Institute and its team of doctors seeks support to pursue clinical and basic science research in all areas of practice.

Meaningful Survivorship

Families with children who have neuromuscular disorders may see a neurosurgeon occasionally, but orthopaedic doctors must manage their long-term care on a routine basis. Neuromuscular disorders, as well as the sports injuries we see, may not be life threatening, but they do threaten the quality of a child’s life. We seek to give patients the best chance to live as normal a life as possible. Quality of life is paramount. This pursuit of meaningful survivorship requires a complex portfolio of specialized services as illustrated in the diagram below.

How can I endow the meaningful survivorship of children?
