'She's the Segerstrom You Don't Know'
07/10/2010
(The following is an excerpt of the story “She’s the Segerstrom You Don’t Know” by David Whiting of The Orange County Register.)
Next to a volunteer helping with coffee a woman stands quietly in the shadows, nothing about her hinting that she has one of the most recognizable names in Orange County.
She waits patiently in a no-nonsense dress as 40 people chatter easily. They work for non-profits. And, while times are especially tough, this day they will receive much needed checks thanks to the woman’s Festival of Children Foundation, the annual Season of Caring campaign, and Register readers.
The main speaker’s humility is, for her, typical. Even some of those who think they know her, think of her as just a well-meaning relative of men who have shaped Orange County.
But make no mistake. Sandy Segerstrom Daniels, co-managing partner with Henry Segerstrom in the billion-dollar company, C. J. Segerstrom & Sons, is one of the most powerful women in Orange County.
She also is one of the funniest – and most self-effacing.
