This September marks the third year that National Child Awareness Month will be celebrated on a national level. Charities nationwide will commemorate National Child Awareness Month, an effort led by the Festival of Children Foundation to turn our nation’s attention to children’s issues for an entire month.

National Child Awareness Month began as a dream in the halls of Festival of Children Foundation. The nonprofit organization founded by Sandy Segerstrom Daniels started with a simple idea: Designate a whole month in which the eyes, ears, minds and actions of our nation are focused on our most important asset — our children. Daniels initiated the effort in 2001and has worked to raise awareness of this issue through the local, state and federal political processes and by enlisting the assistance of charitable organizations nationwide.

National Child Awareness Month has been recognized by local civic leaders, the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate and the United States Conference of Mayors.
